Everett Construction Worker Suffers Head Injuries

A construction worker suffers injuries after being struck in the back of the head by a snapped cable, Tuesday, Sept. 16. The worker and his crew were installing sewer extensions just west of Lake Stevens in Everett, Washington when a cable splice broke and hit him in the back of the head.

The injured worker was in a 30-35 foot deep trench during the time of the accident and had to be rescued by Marysville firefighters.

According to officials, police crews and firefighters from Lake Stevens, Monroe, Marysville, Everett, Lynwood and other surrounding areas responded immediately to the scene of the accident to aid the injured man.

Accident under Investigation

Because the injury occurred on a jobsite, the cause of the accident is under investigation, said the state Department of Labor and Industries spokeswomen, Elaine Fischer.

Marysville Fire Department spokeswoman Stephanie Price added that while the root of the accident is still unclear, officials are hoping to get answers sometime soon. Officials have begun to speak to people living in the surrounding areas in an effort to find a witness.

Arnie Johnson is among the homeowners who the police have interviewed regarding the construction accident. Johnson’s home is above the construction site, yet he says he could not see what was going on, but could hear the operator yelling down to the inured man.

Determining Liability in Construction Accidents

Construction sites are one of the most common places where serious injuries occur. Injuries to construction workers are typically covered under worker’s compensation laws. Determining liability is important, however, because the injured worker may qualify for additional compensation from other parties responsible for the accident.
