The children of an Illinois man filed a personal injury lawsuit against two defendant corporations claiming he suffered a traumatic brain injury during surgery. According to the lawsuit, Henry N. Edwards was admitted to Bellevelle Memorial Hospital Dec. 3 for a scheduled surgery to remove the right upper lobe of one of his lungs.
The lawsuit alleges that the doctor, John Sadoff, used a medical device designed to cut and occlude the pulmonary artery during the procedure. The device, manufactured by Ethicon, Inc. and distributed by Owens and Minor Distribution, Inc., malfunctioned during surgery, causing Edwards to lose a large amount of blood.
