Los Angeles Taxi Driver Killed in Auto Accident

Avishkar Padhye, 29, was arrested Sept. 11, 2008 after running a red light and colliding into the side of a taxicab.

The auto accident, which involved four cars, killed the taxi driver and sent one individual to the hospital where he suffered minor injuries.

Driver Arrested On Suspicion of Manslaughter

According to Richard French, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department, the driver, Avishkar Padhye, 29, is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail on suspicion of manslaughter.

Padhy allegedly ran a red light at a Hollywood intersection at approximately 2:30 a.m. Witnesses say his BMW slammed into the left side of the taxicab, which sent it flying into two other cars.

The initial impact of the BMW killed the taxi driver on impact. The taxi driver was identified as 33-year-old, Karen Karapetyan.
