A couple from New Hampshire was recently awarded $9.5 million in a settlement reached regarding a helicopter crash that took place in Kauai last year.
The couple reportedly suffered from severe back injuries resulting from the crash.
Helicopter Crash in Hawaii
Judy Barton, 52, and her husband, 62, were taking a helicopter ride in Kauai when they suddenly came crashing down in a YMCA camp.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the helicopter lost its tail rotor and went into a tight spin.
Another passenger, who was a resident of Walnut Creek, CA, was killed in the accident.
Injuries Sustained and Helicopter Manufacturers Sued
Judy Barton was reportedly paralyzed from the waist down from the crash while her husband suffered such horrible back injuries he has been unable to return to work.
Rick Fried, the attorney for the couple, claims that in the past decade, 16 crashes have occurred due to tail rotor failures.
The Boeing Co. and Aluminum Precision Products were named as defendants in the suit.
The Bartons say they plan to use the money to build themselves a handicap accessible home and have already spent $750,000 on medical bills since the incident.
