A woman living in Maryland recently filed a suit against her former church claiming that she was sexually assaulted by a pastor.
The pastor in turn filed a countersuit against the woman, although a jury dismissed his suit.
Accusations Against Pastor
The woman accuses Reverend Jeffery Stallworth of sexually assaulting her one evening at her home.
Although Stallworth initially denied the accusations, he later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of sexual assault.
The Mississippi United Methodist Conference and Anderson United Methodist Church are also named as defendants in the suit.
Settlement Reached
After Stallworth pleaded guilty the Mississippi Supreme Court ruled that Stallworth would need to register as a sex offender in the state.
Mississippi law requires sex offenders to register with the local sherrif’s department and be issued an identification card.
The woman was reportedly awarded $10 million in the settlement.
