A settlement was recently reached in a lawsuit filed by the family of a woman who died unexpectedly at a hospital in South Carolina.
The suit was settled for $1.2 million and the staff at Piedmont Medical Center was blamed for failing to perform blood tests at the doctor’s request.
Hospital Error Leads to Untimely Death
Beverly Sue Erdel, 60, was discharged days after having ear surgery at Piedmont Medical center, but returned after experiencing numbness in her leg.
Dr. Otis Speight reportedly ordered blood tests for Erdel that were never done and the staff failed to acknowledge her declining health.
However, soon after she was admitted to the hospital for a second time, she slipped into the coma that eventually took her life.
Family Files Suit
Erdel’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Amisub of South Carolina, which does business as Piedmont Medical Center and the York Emergency Physicians.
The family received a little over $1 million in the suit for their tremendous loss and for the medical and funeral expenses they were unexpectedly left with.
According to reports, this is not the first lawsuit filed against the medical center for negligence involving patients.
