A Washington boating accident killed one man and left 9 others injured. According to investigators, a 21-foot Supra smashed into the back of an 18-foot Bayliner just after 10:30 p.m. Sept. 30.
Driver Arrested at the Scene
According to the police report, the unnamed driver of the Supra was arrested at the scene of the accident with suspicion of manslaughter and two counts of assault. Officers who appeared at the scene said they smelled alcohol on his breath, although it has not yet been confirmed.
The driver of the Bayliner, Ronald Scott, a 49-year-old Bonney Lake resident, was thrown from the boat upon impact. Investigators found him dead in the water over an hour after the accident. In addition to his death, 9 other passengers suffered injuries, of which 3 were serious.
Two women involved in the crash were flown to Haborview Medical Center in Seattle. One of the women lost a leg in the crash and the other sustained severe leg injuries. Records show that one other person was taken to a local hospital and treated for serious injuries as well.
Witnesses Say the Driver of the Supra was Speeding
According to witness reports, the Bayliner was trolling around the lake slowly when the Supra came speeding up from behind and crashed directly into the back of the Bayliner.
One witness said the Supra was traveling at speeds in excess of 25 miles per hour, although that has not been confirmed. The speed limit on the lake is 5 mph.
